Mealworms

Live Mealworms

About

I started out raising mealworms for my small backyard chicken flock but ended up breeding way more than I could reasonably use. I realized that I really love watching and managing these insects, so not only am I breeding them for my chickens, but also now for my own enjoyment. I'm generally producing a few thousand mealworms every week, which really isn't enough for any large scale production, but is totally enough to provide for my poultry and reptile neighbors here in Carson City.

Simple, Chemical-Free

My mealworms are fed a mix of wheat bran and other grains, vegetables, and fruits. These have not been fed any chemicals or hormones to prevent pupation or make them artificially larger. These are just simple, chemical free mealworms, bred and raised with love, a great protein-filled snack for your chickens, ducks, geese, or reptiles. As we go into winter, birds won't have as many insects around so consider my mealworms for a supplement for your flock or local wild birds.

Where

You can pick up or meet in Carson City. I might be able to meet up in the evening in surrounding areas, depending on location and quantity purchasing. If you really can't come to Carson City, we can probably work out me dropping them off for an additional delivery fee, amount based on distance from where I live to where I'm going.

At this time I have no desire to ship mealworms.

Prices

Prices are for any mealworm size and are subject to change based mostly on my costs.

Quantities are counted by weight and will have a few extra thrown in to ensure you get what you pay for. I do not sell by weight, however, as different sized mealworms weigh different amounts and I consider a little one to be worth the same as a bigger one in the grand scheme of things.

While I intend on having a constant supply of mealworms, I am not a large scale producer, so there are only limited quantities available. However, I usually have more than I have sales for. If I do happen to be out of sellable stock I can add you to a waiting list.

Medium are approximately .75". Large are approximately 1" and tend to be fairly "fat" compared to smaller sizes but are likely to pupate soon so have a more limited "shelf life."

Let me know if you're planning on starting to breed your own because I now frequently have pupae and darkling beetles available as well in very limited quantities.
